18 August 2010. After a successful pilot, JR Shipping and MirTac have continued the fleetwide implementation of the STAR IPS Fleet Management Software. JR Shipping signed a contract for 25 ships and its office.

Fabian Klok, Manager ICT, says: ‘During the successful pilot implementation on two vessels, both vessel and office staff acknowledged a vast increase in efficiency. Processes and procedures, such as maintenance planning, stock control, vessel administration and document control, were implemented into a user friendly and reliable management system.’

Jan Reier Arends, managing partner and primarily responsible for fleet and daily operations, adds: ‘MirTac has proved to be a knowledgeable no-nonsense solution provider. Safety and reliability onboard our vessels will increase. Transparency and optimization of fleet and maintenance management will inevitably result in cost reduction and higher performance.’

The pilot implementation consisted of two phases. The first phase, consisting of screening and importing of data, database building in pilot, user training, resulted in a positive ‘proof of concept’. And the second covered full operational testing on two vessels and the office.
